Mantis Group and Chōsen have partnered to offer a new rewarding concept in wellness hospitality, with the recent launch of the inaugural Chōsen Lifestyle Optimisation Experience South Africa.
The concept combines the Chōsen programme for personal evolution with access to the natural environment and wildlife conservation at Founders Lodge by Mantis, in the Eastern Cape, adjacent to Shamwari Game Reserve.

Chōsen Experiences is a signature experiential learning programme, tailor-made to influence mental, physical and emotional development, allowing guests to operate at their full potential. The week-long itinerary is aimed at achieving an optimal state of consciousness, fostering positive self-exploration, fitness and community connections.
Guided physical and cognitive activities are based on scientific research, designed by Chōsen Life Optimisation Architects, which include Olympic medalists, wellness doctors, nutritionists, strength and conditioning trainers, and professional coaches.
The South African experience is led by local host, Ryk Neethling, an Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer, who has forged a successful career in business and philanthropy as an entrepreneur, CEO of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation South Africa and an ambassador for both the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and Hope Through Africa.
Bringing together functional fitness, nutrition, mindfulness and adventure challenges with a curated group of individuals, the week provides a platform for self-improvement and shared knowledge, being immersed in nature, while embracing the conservation principles, further enhances participants’ wellbeing, happiness and personal growth. It also incorporates a game lodge experience, with guided safari drives to see Africa’s Big Five, while connecting with the environment on a more meaningful level.
“By harnessing Chōsen Experiences’ wellness expertise and research, our mission to establish a nurturing connection between humans and the environment comes to life in a tangible way,” says Paul Gardiner, Mantis CEO Beyond Africa.
Chōsen is delighted to partner with the Mantis Group, which has unearthed some of the world’s most exceptional travel experiences, including Founders Lodge by Mantis near Port Elizabeth in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. Offering an inspiring sense of place, the luxurious six-suite retreat overlooks the bushveld, comprising rare flora and fauna. Founders Lodge encapsulates the Mantis ethos 'Man and Nature Together is Sustainable', which aligns with Chōsen’s pathways to self-discovery.
The week is ideal for people who want to recalibrate their place in the world through fresh experiences and authentic connections with nature and others.
