Air New Zealand took a fun spin on what is often seen as an unexciting inflight precaution with the release of a new hip hop safety video featuring 600 cast members dancing up a storm whilst conveying important safety messages.
The carrier says Kiwi Safety is its largest scale video to date, with a cast taken from 30 communities across New Zealand, including lifesavers, ice curlers and dance troupes.
The video’s soundtrack is a remake mash-up of RUN-DMC’s “It’s Tricky” with “In the Neighbourhood”, a song by New Zealand hip-hop duo, Sisters Underground.
General Manager Global Brand and Content Marketing at Air New Zealand, Jodi Williams, said that the video was “all about celebrating great Kiwi talent, the diverse groups which make up New Zealand, as well as a number of fantastic locations. We know this video will make people proud to be New Zealanders – but will also showcase our unique Kiwi culture to the world.
“We’ve never had so many people in one safety video before or filmed in so many locations. It’s also been great to change up our formula and do a safety video in the style of a music video. We’re sure everyone is going to love the remixed track “It’s Kiwi”– while at the same time getting our key safety messages [across].”
Over the years Air New Zealand has produced inflight safety videos featuring Antartica, an Alice in Wonderland theme, the world of Hollywood, The Hobbit, and the “Bare Essentials of Safety” featuring body-painted staff.
