The Independent reported today on teen adventurer Jade Hameister’s response to YouTube troublemakers who posted sexist comments on her 2016 TEDx Talk.
In the talk Jade recounts her trip to the North Pole, hoping to inspire and help other girls see beyond gender expectations and stereotypes.
Of course some key-board warrior just had to jump in: “Good on you sweetie, maybe [you] could find a successful husband and make him a sandwich.”
Instead of seeking out a husband, Jade decided to set off on another expedition, this time to the South Pole. She reached it on January 10, and at the end of her trip decided to leave something behind for her detractors.
She made a ham and cheese sandwich and shared a photo of it, saying: “Now ski 37 days and 600km to the South Pole and you can eat it”.
After the trip she posted on Facebook: “My guide, Eric Philips, said this was the toughest trip in terms of weather conditions in his 25 years of polar guiding.
“The wind and extreme cold were relentless and brutal. So many stories, so many memories.
“I cannot thank the incredibly fun team I shared this journey with enough and everyone back home for your support. Here’s to a hot shower and some real food!”
