Namibia has officially launched the Namibia Convention Bureau (NCB), a central coordinating body to promote the country as a globally competitive destination for MICE. The NCB sits under the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB).
This will become Namibia’s official point of contact for event organisers bringing international MICE sector engagements to the country.
The initiative also aligns with Namibia’s Tourism Sector Recovery Plan (2022-2024), the National Spatial Tourism Master Plan (2025-2035) and the government’s objective to create 500 000 jobs across the economy.
“The MICE sector is not just about events, it is about unlocking new pathways for investment, trade and tourism,” said NIPDB CEO Nangula Nelulu Uaandja. “When global decision-makers come to Namibia for conferences and exhibitions, they don’t only consume services; they build relationships, explore business opportunities and ultimately invest in our economy.”
The NCB will also administer the MICE visa programme and coordinate national bidding for international conferences and support event logistics.
Namibia’s Minister of Environment, Forestry and Tourism Indileni Daniel said the launch demonstrates Namibia’s readiness to compete globally in the business events sector and called for public-private collaboration to grow the industry, support MSMEs and advance economic diversification.
“The government has shown its commitment by modernising legislation, streamlining processes and even introducing the MICE visa to ease delegate entry. But success depends on partnership,” said Daniel. She highlighted the need for conference centres, expanded accommodation capacity, technology infrastructure, creative services and professional event organisers.
In 2025, Namibia hosted 22 MICE events, including the Global African Hydrogen Summit, Namibia Oil and Gas Conference and Africa Infrastructure Finance Summit. These events attracted more than 2 000 delegates and injected over N$23 million (US$1.38 million) into the economy.
The NCB has invited Namibian businesses to register as service providers including operators in hospitality, event management, audiovisual services and exhibition stand construction. The full list of services is available on the NCB website.
