UK tour operator, In the Saddle, which specialises in horse riding holidays around the world, has launched a new itinerary in Swaziland - The Mlilwane Explorer.
The itinerary will run from April through to September, with four trips currently planned and one already sold out. The nine-night tour, with six days of riding ranging between three and six hours a day, is suitable for intermediate and expert riders.
The Mlilwane Explorer itinerary will see guests ride through the plains of Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, and after two nights in traditional beehive huts with en-suite bathrooms, the trail heads up to the northern highlands of Mlilwane, passing through Swazi communities en route. Guests then head to Klipspringer camp, where dinner is cooked over an open camp fire.
Guests then depart south towards Forester’s Arms, a country-style hotel with established gardens. The following day sees more riding among the many valleys and granite peaks.
The final day takes guests back to Mlilwane Reserve and a farewell to the horses before transferring to Hlane Royal National Park for a night and a morning game drive.
A final transfer takes guests to Mkhaya Game Reserve for a two-night stay in open-sided stone chalets, and game drives in a reserve known for its rhino encounters.
The horses are mainly Arab cross-Boerperd, cross-Warmblood, ranging from 15 to 16 hands, trained to ride English style.
In the Saddle riding specialist, Olwen Law, recently visited Swaziland. “Swaziland has an amazing range of terrain and wildlife for such a small country. This is an ideal trip for anyone interested in an authentic safari with wilderness camping.”
