A new fly camp experience has launched in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.
The experience, by Okavango Horse Safaris, is designed around mixed-interest safari groups, reflecting growing demand for itineraries that cater to different travel preferences within families, couples and groups.
The experience targets riders and non-riders travelling together.
While riders explore the floodplains on horseback, non-riders can participate in mokoro excursions, birdwatching and guided explorations of the Delta’s waterways and islands.
Groups reconnect later in the day before travelling onwards to the fly camp by horseback or game vehicle.
The camp features canvas tents with en-suite bathrooms and hot showers alongside a central mess tent with lounge areas and communal spaces. Evenings include sundowners around the fire with wildlife frequently moving through the surrounding floodplains.
Alongside the fly camp launch, Okavango Horse Safaris will introduce a series of artist-led retreats in 2027.
These include a plein air painting residency led by South African Artist Joni-Leigh Doran in partnership with Art of Africa as well as the Kujwana Art and Design Retreat with British Textile Designer Freya Roze.
The retreats will combine creative workshops with wildlife experiences and longer stays within the Delta.
