People on the move: Protea Hotels by Marriott appoints new Regional GM

Johan Cronjé has been appointed Regional General Manager by Protea Hotels by Marriott.

Protea Hotels by Marriott has appointed Johan Cronjé as the new Regional General Manager for the Northern Region.

He will be responsible for 16 hotels across Gauteng and Limpopo, as well as in Tanzania. In his role of supporting the General Manager in the region, Cronjé will oversee the implementation of marketing, financial and quality plans, as well as maintaining relationships with the hotel owners in these areas.

Cronjé graduated from Tshwane University of Technology, where he completed his National Diploma in Hospitality Management. He then went on to join Protea Hotels in 2002, and served in various hotels in the Cape and Gauteng. His first GM appointment was at the Protea Hotel by Marriott Tyger Valley in 2009, followed by a four-year stint as GM of the Protea Hotel by Marriott Fire & Ice Cape Town. During this period, he also completed the Cornell University General Managers Programme.

In 2012, he was awarded Manager of the Year and the Protea Hotels by Marriott Marketing Award in 2017.

Zuki Jantjies has been appointed Divisional Director of Sales and Marketing of the City Lodge Hotel Group.

She has joined the group from her own company where she specialised in providing marketing communications and customer service strategies to her clients.

Jantjies previously held management positions at Nampark Group, Liberty Group, SAA and SA Express.

She succeeds Peter Schoeman, who retired early last year.

The Durban International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) has promoted Scott Langley to the role of Marketing, Sales and Events Director.

Langley has worked in Cape Town, Gauteng and the Eastern Cape in various tourism marketing roles. He joined the Durban ICC in October 2012 and during his past five years has served in the positions of Marketing and Sales Manager, as well as Corporate Affairs Manager.

Durban ICC CEO, Lindiwe Rakharebe, said: “I am delighted that Scott has been appointed to this position. He has a fresh approach to the department and will play a vital role in identifying new opportunities for the company and elevating the brand profile of the Durban ICC. Following a broad search I know we have found the right person for the role and it is also encouraging that we get to promote from within our organisation thanks to our succession planning programme.”
