International luxury brand OKU Hotels has acquired the former Ritz Hotel in Sea Point, Cape Town.
The 23-storey hotel, which opened in 1972 and became known for its revolving rooftop restaurant, closed in 2015.
OKU Hotels, which operates properties in Türkiye, Greece, Ibiza and Spain, confirmed it will restore and renovate the building. The reopening date has not yet been confirmed.
Speaking to Tourism Update, OKU Hotels said: “We are delighted to confirm OKU’s acquisition of the Ritz Hotel – a much-loved landmark that we look forward to restoring with care and creativity. Our vision is to honour the building’s heritage while introducing our signature blend of laidback hospitality and lifestyle concepts – from spa and wellness to vibrant dining and social spaces.”
The acquisition marks OKU’s move into Africa with The Ritz as the group’s first urban hotel. The group also confirmed a safari project is being developed in South Africa.
