Serengeti Balloon Safaris trains young guides

Serengeti Balloon Safaris has launched the Balloon Trailblazers Guide Apprenticeship Programme – a new initiative aimed at developing the next generation of safari guides in Tanzania.

The three-week, live-in course at the Serengeti Balloon Safaris base in the Serengeti trained 22 young Tanzanians in key guiding and tourism competencies including defensive driving, wilderness first aid, vehicle maintenance, safety protocols, responsible tourism, TANAPA regulations and luxury hospitality.

The programme, which will now run annually, marks a long-term investment in Tanzania’s tourism workforce and supports national goals of youth empowerment and skills development.

“This programme is part of a company-wide range of activities we are developing to ensure we have a continued positive impact from a sustainability, environmental and community perspective,” the company said.

Through its rigorous curriculum, the Balloon Trailblazers Programme aims to raise professional standards in Tanzania’s safari industry. Graduates will meet global benchmarks in safety, service and environmental ethics – enhancing Tanzania’s position as a leading safari destination.

With 64% of Tanzania’s population under 30, the initiative directly supports youth employment. Of the 22 trainees, 12 top graduates will join Serengeti Balloon Safaris in long-term roles while the remaining 10 will be supported in finding employment elsewhere within the tourism sector.
