Sun City aims to become ‘Vegas of SA’

Sun International’s Sun City Hotel is finalising its renovations and preparing to show off its ‘Vegas-esque’ facelift in time for the 2025 Nedbank Golf Challenge in November and the busy December holiday season.

On September 25, in a Miami Heat-themed celebration in its revamped pool area, the hotel marked the occasion alongside its guests, suppliers, local government, entertainers and the media.

The pool now wraps around a dedicated DJ island, while the deck also features a circular cocktail bar and a selection of couches, lounge chairs and private cabanas with luxury daybeds.

Further upgrades include a refurbished porte cochère, the redesign of 350 hotel rooms and a transformation of the Sun Terrace restaurant.

The Sun Terrace, which offers a panoramic view of the new pool area and the surrounding landscape, saw the installation of retractable glass doors and two interactive cooking theatres, where guests can talk to the restaurant’s professional chefs and watch as their meals are prepared.

The rooms, which will be completed by November, now feature new contemporary bathrooms, coffee bars, king-size beds, and décor in soft neutrals, shades of turquoise and gold.

Ryan Ilgner, Director at interior design company Solebi-Blacksmith, said Sun City Hotel’s new look reflects the perfect marriage between local Tswana culture and contemporary luxury, “Drawing inspiration from Tswana artistry, the new interior design features bold geometric motifs that echo the intricate patterns found in the newly renovated guest rooms. These rich visual elements serve as a subtle yet powerful tribute to the region’s cultural identity, grounding the modern space in authenticity and storytelling,” said Ilgner.
