Surprise ETA rule hits Moz travellers

Mozambique has unexpectedly introduced a new travel requirement for passport holders from certain visa-exempt countries. Effective immediately, travellers must register their trips at least 48 hours before departure through the official electronic travel authorisation (ETA) platform.

Local operators say that, so far, they are not aware of any travellers being turned away at departure points or on arrival. However, it remains unclear whether authorities are applying a grace period. According to the official notice, travellers who fail to register in advance may risk being denied boarding or entry into Mozambique.

The following countries are included:

  • Belgium
  • Canada
  • China
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France

Business travellers are required to present an invitation letter from their hosts, a return ticket and financial proof.
