The Maslow introduces Pairing High Tea

The Maslow introduces Pairing High Tea, combining decadent treats with local South African teas.

The Maslow Sandton in Johannesburg has introduced Pairing High Tea, a century-old tradition with a modern-day twist, as treats are carefully paired with handpicked specialty teas in a five-stage journey.

Executive Chef at The Maslow, Justin Jonah comments: “We are inspired by the burgeoning diversity of locally produced, specialty teas and how their flavours and aromas can enhance those of food. Tea and cake has been done for years, but now, with the ever-widening choice of teas, we can really explore how they can be paired to enhance the experience of taking afternoon tea.”

Course one features vanilla bean scones with cape fig jam, cucumber and cottage cheese knots, caramelised tomato and onion quiche, and strawberry frangipani complemented by rooibos vanilla tea.

The second course includes lemon meringue tartlets, salmon and lemon aioli on brioche, egg mayo and water cress with choux, paired with lemon fresh tea.

The third course includes green tea mousse with mango salsa, orange and almond cake, bitter chocolate tartlet with Turkish delight, and sushi, paired with Green Tea Morgentau to enhance flavours.

The fourth course has a decidedly South African feel with traditional treats such as curried mince, vetkoek and koeksisters paired with brewed black tea.

The final course includes desserts such as red velvet opera cake, berry tartlets, rainbow cake and chocolate friands paired with sweet berries tea.

The Maslow’s Pairing High Tea is served every Saturday between 08h00 and 17h00, at a cost of R320 (€20.50) per adult and R160 (€10.25) for children under the age of 12.
