The Western Cape sees another conservancy with the establishment of the Karoo Gateway Conservancy.
Located in the Klaarstroom district, the 18 000 hectare conservancy was founded by a group of local farmers with a voluntary agreement to manage their land in an environmentally sustainable way, considering biodiversity conservation, eco-tourism and sustainable agriculture.
CapeNature will provide input and guidance on management plans and biodiversity assessments and potentially also offer funding to support the conservancy, acting as a custodian. The conservancy will become part of CapeNature’s network of recognised conservancies in the Western Cape.
