Head of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), Karikoga Kaseke, recently acknowledged the decline in standards within the country’s tourism offerings, with special reference to the hotel industry in Zimbabwe.
This comes after a press conference held at Victoria Falls International Airport with UK-based travel writers, according to All Africa.
Kaseke highlighted the current efforts being made by tourism bodies and establishments, who are working to improve offerings and increase tourism in the country. He went on to suggest that the tourism decline may be attributed to the increasingly negative relationship between Harare and western countries.
He said: “People left this country and they are giving their services everywhere else. In South Africa, the person who is serving you on the front desk is a Zimbabwean.”
Kaseke encouraged Zimbabweans who had fled the country to return, following the recent change in government. “Zimbabweans are very skilled and these skills flew out because of our problems but now that Zimbabwe is back, and it is back, we hope that with time our people will realise that it’s time to come back and contribute to the development of the nation.”
