AIR Botswana hopes to sell between 45-49% of its shares to a strong airline partner by the last quarter of this year, according to the Botswana government website. The deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Works and Transport, Gabolekwe Tlogelang, said that five regional airlines had expressed interest in the local airline. International Finance Corporation (IFC), an arm of the World Bank Group and the government’s lead advisor in the Air Botswana transaction, is supervising the privatisation of AB. The bid date is anticipated to be in late September this year. The government aim is to ensure that Air Botswana enters into a partnership with a strong regional airline in order to benefit from current liberalisation and consolidation. (Miguel de Sousa)
