MINISTER of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Mohammed Valli Moosa, has sent a team of motorbikers off on their exploration of the newly-launched cross-country tourism route, Coast to Coast. The Coast to Coast Tourism Marketing Initiative is five-nation tourism product which saw the creation of a self-drive route through Namibia (beginning in Swakopmund), Botswana, South Africa (Mpumalanga, Gauteng and North West), Swaziland and Mozambique (ending in Maputo). Similar to Route 66 in the US and Explorer Highway in Australia, the Coast to Coast route spans 3 000km of tarred road across southern Africa, using the newly-opened Trans-Africa Highway as its central spine. The team of bikers began their journey in Mozambique and will work their way up to south-west Africa over the rest of the week. Sending the team off, Minster Moosa wished the team well on their journey, thanking them for their role in helping to bring regional attention to this "very positive project that will ultimately benefit the whole country".
