BLUE IQ, the 10-project initiative of the Gauteng Provincial Government, has approached the Gauteng Economic Development Agency (Geda) to handle its international marketing, and in particular, be responsible for sourcing potential investors for these projects. One such undertaking is Premier Mbhazima Shilowa's Gautrain Rapid Rail Link project, for which Geda will be facilitating foreign investment. Other projects include the Nelson Mandela Bridge, Constitution Hill and the interpretation centre near Mohale's Gate at Gauteng's Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. The decision to take Geda on board reflects the positive light in which the agency's accomplishments have been perceived over the past few years in facilitating in excess of R560m in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Gauteng in 2001, says Geda chief executive officer, Charles Jonker. Geda's target for 2002 is to bring in a further R1.6bn. (Adéle Mackenzie)
