Buffalo, rhino released into Sanbona

SANBONA Wildlife Reserve in the Western Cape welcomed a second herd of buffalo into the northern part of the reserve on June 14. This follows the first introduction of buffalo in November 2003. White rhino from Imfolozi were also released on the same day in the northern part of the reserve. The buffalo were bred free of disease in Lichtenburg and have been tested five times for various diseases. The introduction of the rhino comes after a study determined that the animals would cope well in the Klein Karoo environment and not cause any damage to the system. Sanbona has confirmed that it will also release giraffe into the reserve later this month. The Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is a member of the Mantis Collection. (Darren Sandras)
