Call for Grading Council nominations

SOUTH African Tourism (Satour) has issued the call for nominations from 'capable individuals' in the tourism sector to become members of a Tourism Grading Council, following a mandate developed with the industry and endorsed by the Department of Tourism and Environmental Affairs. The Grading Council is to be constituted under the auspices of Satour to develop a framework for the governing of a national grading system for the hospitality industry. It will operate with a high level of independence within the existing legal framework attributed to Satour with regards the awarding of 'stars'. "We intend ensuring that the council is an independent and credible body that will uphold the highest standards, ensuring that SA's facilities are on par with the expectations of both international and local visitors," said Moss Mashishi, Satour's acting chief executive officer. Nominees' applications should be supported by a comprehensive curriculum vitae and supporting references from recognised stakeholders and be submitted to the head office of Satour in Pretoria for the attention of Pim Zouteriks, assistant general manager: standards promotion before 12 noon on June 26, 2000.
