Cape heritage building becomes boutique hotel

AMBASSADOR Group is converting a heritage building at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town into a luxury boutique hotel.

Dock House is expected to open early next year and will comprise five spacious rooms and one suite. Four of the rooms will have balconies overlooking the Waterfront’s harbour area. Each of the rooms will offer free wireless Internet and will be fitted with a bar and state-of-the-art designer bathrooms. The bathrooms will have heated towel rails and under-floor heating.

The hotel will feature a morning room where breakfasts will be served and it will also double up as a meetings venue. Dock House will have a pool area, situated in a manicured garden, which will include a pool bar and outdoor dining area. A wellness centre will be built adjacent to the Dock House and will comprise treatment rooms and a gym.

Dock House is situated opposite Timeball Tower in the Waterfront’s Portswood Precinct. The building was originally the grand residence and offices to the Harbour Engineer in the mid-1800s.
