ONE of South Africa's leading car rental companies, Imperial Car Rental, has initiated a black empowerment partnership with Exel Petroleum by way of a mutual expansion strategy. Exel is a black-owned organisation that, since October 1998, has been supplying fuel to Imperial's Cape Town International Airport depot. The new partnership has developed further and enhanced SMME (small, medium and micro enterprises) opportunities by creating more incentives and further growth for Exel franchisees. The new arrangement means that Exel service stations will be able to offer its customers either a fully-fledged rental office with cars on hand or an Imperial help desk complete with reservation facilities, with cars being delivered to renters from the closest Imperial branch. "This partnership represents the opportunities for small business in South Africa's leading groups to prove that we can deliver our promises. This has already manifested itself in a very strong business partnership relationship," says Exel marketing operations gm, Maurice Radebe. Imperial's rental md, Dawn Jones, added: " We are committed to empowering all non-core businesses, contributing and promoting free market enterprise. Thus our involvement with Exel has been, and will continue, to grow as a successful partnership." (Miguel de Sousa)
