Carlton reunion raises funds for tourism bursary

THE Carlton Alumni International Reunion took place in Johannesburg this January to re-unite “Carltonites” and Friends of The Carlton and raise funds for a South African hospitality industry bursary. At least 100 “Carltonites” and Friends of The Carlton attended a pub evening at The Roof of Africa Restaurant, at the top of the Carlton Centre, in January. A gala banquet followed the day after where at least R49 000 was raised for The Carlton Leadership Bursary. The bursary was then handed over to Zola Majodina, food and beverage operations manager at the Protea Breakwater Lodge in Cape Town, who will be attending the Cornell Summer School in the US for two weeks, before taking part in a two to three month training project sponsored by MTM Management, based in Seattle. The Carlton operated as one of Johannesburg’s top hotels for 25 years. (Natalia Thomson)
