Celebrate World Tourism Day!

CITIES and towns around South Africa are hosting a variety of events in honour of World Tourism Day on September 27.

Cape Town Tourism plans to celebrate World Tourism Day with the launch of Cape Town’s Day.

The purpose of the day is to inspire locals to live and love their city. Mariette du Toit-Helmbold, ceo of Cape Town Tourism, explains: “Cape Town’s Day will become an annual highlight for Capetonians – a day when the tourism industry gives back to citizens and the sons and daughters of the Mother City can enjoy the benefits of living in one of the most iconic cities on earth.”

The tourism authority will give away free tickets to Cape Town’s most iconic attractions and experiences, including Table Mountain Cableway, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Monkey Town, the City Sightseeing Bus, Robben Island and many more.

Selected Cape Town tourism visitor information centres will also have specific activities planned for the public, including wine tasting, good food and giveaways.

Umhlanga Tourism has also organised a range of activities for the day, on Chartwell Drive. Music groups will entertain visitors as they browse through flea market stalls or eat at one of the many restaurants. Activities also include the Umhlanga Lifesavers’ march and the Harley Davidson bikers’ drive-through.

Umhlanga Tourism, WESSA, the Sharks Board and the Italian Club will host information tables on the day, educating people on environmental sustainability in the tourism sector.
