Come to the Cape, get the T-shirt

THOSE driving down to Cape Town on the N1 freeway over this weekend (December 15, 16) will be welcomed into the Western Cape town of Beaufort West by being offered T-shirts, caps, maps and brochures of the region.
The annual welcome party which is co-sponsored by the Western Cape Tourism Board (WCTB) and a variety of corporate sponsors, will again be held on the Engen petrol station forecourt in Beaufort West, as travellers enter the town from the north.
"This is our way of welcoming our visitors from the north, many of who traditionally come to the Cape at this time of the year, and Beaufort West is the customary entry point to the Western Cape for visitors driving down from Gauteng and further," said Melanie Fortuin-Durr of the WCTB.
She added that besides radio broadcasts throughout the weekend, promoters would be on hand to provide visitors with tourist maps of the Western Cape, T-shirts, peak caps and spot prizes such as weekends away, dinners in Cape restaurants and free entrance to tourist attractions.
Meanwhile the Provincial Department of Traffic and Caledon Traffic in conjunction with other agencies, used the opportunity of a road block recently to welcome visitors to the Overberg region of the province.
Personnel of Overberg Tourism and two volunteers handed out gifts and snacks (including T-shirts, candles and shark biltong ) as well as regional brochures to motorists.
