The President Hotel in Cape Town has introduced a new room offering designed specifically for neurodivergent guests. The initiative aims to create a calm, inclusive environment for guests with autism, ADHD and other neurodivergent conditions.
Developed in collaboration with Autism South Africa, the new rooms were designed with input from neurodivergent individuals and their families to ensure authenticity and functionality.
Barbara Murphy, Compliance Manager at the President Hotel, said: “We recognised a significant gap in the hospitality industry. Neurodivergent travellers often face challenges finding accommodation that understands and caters to their specific needs. Working alongside Autism South Africa has been invaluable in ensuring we’re creating something authentic and truly helpful.”
The rooms incorporate a range of features to reduce sensory overload and promote relaxation. These include:
- Weighted blankets and sensory quilts
- A sensory tent for children
- Customisable lighting, white noise machines and aroma diffusers
- Sleep kits including earplugs
- Fidget boxes and sensory packs
Guests also benefit from a streamlined check-in process aimed at minimising stress and sensory triggers.
