Ellerman House opens wine gallery, adds luxury villa

Ellerman House in Bantry Bay, Cape Town, has opened the Ellerman House Wine Gallery and added a second luxury villa, which will be known as Villa Two. Both the gallery and villa were designed by architect, Michael Dennett.

The wine gallery will showcase Ellerman House’s award-winning South African wine collection, consisting of 7 500 vintage and rare wines that are stored in temperature-controlled subterranean cellars. “The wine gallery is a work of art, rather than just a functional space,” said Owner, Paul Harris.

The gallery has an interactive multi-media wine library, maturation cellars for white and red wines and a brandy tasting lounge. The Champagne Cellar is stocked with rare and special vintages of Dom Perignon. Ellerman House has also devised a wine App for iPad that provides information about South African wines, including tasting notes for individual wines in sync with the hotel’s wine list.

Villa Two has been built above the wine gallery and comprises two levels, with private terraces with sea views. The first level has three bedrooms with open-plan bathrooms, a study area and surround-sound mini cinema. On the top level, entertainment, dining and living areas lead to an outdoor infinity pool and patio.

In contrast to the old-world elegance of the original Ellerman House, the villas add a glamorous, contemporary edge to the hotel’s relaxed, refined ambience. Designed with absolute privacy in mind, the villa accommodation is for exclusive use only, and comes with its own private staff and chef.  It is ideal for families travelling with children or high-profile guests seeking extreme privacy.

The property’s terraced gardens were also recently replanted exclusively with indigenous plants and shrubs sourced directly from Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.
