After having announced earlier this week that Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife (EKZNW) would double the entrance fees to Hluhluwe National Park for international visitors, Thabiso Dube, Manager Business Development for Commercial Services at Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife has now announced that the decision to increase the gate fees has been suspended until further notice.
EKZNW had previously announced the new gate entry prices at Hluhluwe iMfolozi would be increased to R300 per person for international visitors from September 20 while South African visitors would have to pay R150.
EKZNW explained in a statement that it had no option but to increase the entrance fees due to the increase in labour and associated costs. “Ezemvelo is a state-funded agency responsible for nature conservation and the management of bio-diversity in KZN. In doing so, Ezemvelo is expected to supplement its subsidy through commercial operations. Admissions revenue is one such source of additional funds that make it possible for Ezemvelo to carry out its mandate.”
