Facelift for Giant's Castle

THE world-famous Giant's Castle in the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park run by KZN Wildlife is scheduled, at month end, to emerge from a major facelift with the upgrading of every facility formerly available in the camp.
All the original accommodation units have been upgraded to self-catering, en-suite units and new units are being built in addition to a more spacious reception/trading area.
When finished, the 135-bed development will also include a restaurant.
"The new Giant's Castle camp not only retains much that is traditional to the Drakensberg experience, such as fireplaces in all units," says KZN Wildlife's ceo, Dr George Hughes, "but also provides new facilities that are designed to attract a broader selection of tourists to the Park."
Each of the bedrooms features original paintings of local flora and the themed restaurant reflects the area's rich San art heritage, the Park being home to some 40 000 images at over 500 sites.
Grounds have been re-landscaped with indigenous plants to such an extent, added Hughes, that the property will resemble a "mini-Kirstenbosch botanical garden".
