Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) has launched a guide called South Africa: A Fair Trade Travel Guide. The guide is available for free on the FTTSA website.
The guide gives tourists an overview of all FTTSA-certified tourism businesses in South Africa, including backpacker lodges, guest houses, safari lodges and hotels, FTTSA-certified tour operators and adventure activity operators are also featured.
By choosing an FTTSA-certified business, visitors to South Africa can enjoy their holiday knowing the money they spend benefits South Africa and South Africans. Fair Trade tourism ensures good wages and working conditions for staff, and that a fair share of tourism income goes to local communities.
Katarina Mancama, FTTSA Project Manager, says: “FTTSA-certification provides a guarantee to travellers that these properties, operators and activities are operating according to Fair Trade principles,’
The guide has been created in collaboration with the certified tourism businesses and SA Tourism.
