THE Honorary Rangers, a national volunteer group of nature lovers, has in effect contributed almost R10,5m in the past year to the coffers of South African National Parks (SANP).
Speaking at the Honorary Rangers Indaba 2000 at Storms River in the Eastern Cape at the weekend, HR committee member, John Faul, said the sum is totalled from the work done that SANP staff would have had to do throughout the country.
It included man-hours spent on patrols and projects such as game transfers, with specific tasks ranging from building a hide to electrification of a caravan park, counter-poaching and alien plant eradication.
The Honorary Rangers was founded in 1963.
