The Drostdy Hotel in Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape, has reopened following restoration work.
Newmark Hotels, Reserves & Lodges, which manages the property, took the decision to renovate the hotel, which dates back to 1805. The estate has in the past been used as an official building, slave quarters,a family residence, and most recently, as a hotel. There are over 220 heritage sites in the surrounding area of Graaff-Reinet and a travel consultancy desk at the hotel itself, meaning that guests at the Drostdy Hotel will find a variety of authentic activities to enjoy.
Partnering with DHK Architects, the group worked on several of the site’s buildings, such as the ‘Stretch’s Court’ cottages and the Kromm’s Inn building, ensuring the historical integrity of each of the structures. Stephen Falcke, interior designer, refurbished the interior design of the 48 guest rooms, restaurant and public areas while the gardens feature the work of landscape architect, Jan Blok.
A new restaurant and a number of new facilities have been added. The property offers three pools, as well as conferencing facilities.
