History awakened

THE first phase of Port Elizabeth's long awaited South End Museum will open in November. Designed to exhibit life as it was in this historical part of the city before the forced removals of the 1960s, it will also include an auditorium and an exhibition hall. South End Museum Trust chairman, Errol Heynes, said: "There were all sorts of people living in South End, including Khoi-San, Coloureds, Indians, Chinese and Xhosa-speaking people, all living together in perfect harmony." Some R200 000 has been invested into the project by the Port Elizabeth City Council. (Rosemary Wilson)
