Horwath reports 'slightly less confident' results

THE Horwath HTL Hotel Performance Confidence indicator for the second quarter of 2009 has been released and the results showed slightly less optimism than previously.

A large group (56%) of respondents anticipate a decline in occupancy for the second quarter of this year in comparison to 2008. But 52% of respondents believe the average room rate will increase in the second quarter. Some 34% of respondents believe that total revenue will be greater than in 2008.

In terms of occupancy, when compared with the second quarter of 2008 hotel managers are less confident of an increase in occupancy.

“In light of the aforementioned confidence in occupancy and average room rate increases in Q2, 2009, it is not surprising that some 34% of all hotel managers interviewed forecast an increase in total revenue for the upcoming quarter when compared to total revenue achieved in Q2, 2008. Some 44% of respondents anticipate total revenue will decrease in the second quarter of 2009 when compared to the second quarter of 2008, whilst some 22% of respondents forecast total revenue will remain unchanged in the second quarter of 2009 when compared to the same period in 2008,” stated the report.
