IMAX doors open in Gauteng

GAUTENG's first IMAX theatre held its premier on Saturday at the East Rand Galleria in Boksburg. The cinema's marketing manager, Tracey Lawlor, says the first two features at the cinema - namely 'Olympic Glory' and 'Extreme' - both deal with sports. She says the cinema can seat 296 people, has a five-storey-high by 21-metre-wide screen and uses 12 000 watts of digital sound through 44 speakers. The price for adults is R34 for a single feature and R62 for a double feature, while children pay R25 for a single feature and R44 for a double feature. There are also special rates for group bookings, children under 15 and senior citizens. Gauteng's second IMAX cinema in Hyde Park, Johannesburg is set to open in November. (Miguel de Sousa)
