THE KwaZulu Natal (KZN) Department of Transport is to spend R137m on upgrading the R618 and the R66 road which links Mtubatuba to Vryheid going through Hlabisa, Nongoma and Pongola. The road, currently a dirt road, will serve as an important tourism corridor for tourists visiting the Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Game Reserve and then on to the coast and the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park from the Battlefields. According to head of development from the KZN department of Transport, James Mlawu, the upgrade has been fast-tracked and the sod-turning ceremony will take place "within a few weeks".
