Johannesburg tour operators that are offering transfers to matches in Johannesburg can expect to pay for Park and Walk facilities in order to get their clients to matches in the city after the City of Johannesburg and the organising committee neglected to make provision for drop and go facilities.
Executive Director of Transport for the city, Lisa Seftel, says that private operators must buy tickets for the park and walk facilities located around the Soccer City and Ellis Park stadiums through Computicket or ticketbreak.co.za in order to gain access to parking lots.
Here, operators will be able to park their vehicles for the duration of a match but will not be able to drop off clients and return after the match to collect them. Vehicles that try to drop off passengers will be turned away, says Seftel.
Although this solution seems simple, it does pose an extra cost for operators as the cost of the Park and Walk facilities are dependent on vehicle size. Ticket prices for cars are R50, mini bus taxis will be charged R100, 35-seater buses at R300 and 64-seater buses, R700.
Alternatively, operators may drop off clients at the Westgate Transport Hub, which will allow ticket holders to travel at no cost to the stadium precincts.
Guests can also use the BRT Rea Vaya systems to get to matches for a small fee.
