Kruger to get observation node

THE Kruger National Park (KNP) is set to get South Africa’s first long-term environmental observation node, according to media reports. The node, which will be located in the Phalaborwa area of the Kruger, is aimed at creating a standardised database that can be used to track and monitor trends and changes in the environment. The node, named Ndlovu node, will be one of many planned for South Africa as part of an environmental initiative undertaken by the National Research Foundation. The node will be funded by the department of science and technology. South African National Parks has said that finalisation of the establishment of the node will be brought to the KNP executive committee management meeting on August 23, after which further details will be released. It is however reported that the node will be launched in September of this year. (Darren Sandras)
