Machampane Wilderness Camp in Great Transfrontier Limpopo Park in Mozambique has reopened after being closed as a result of flooding caused by tropical storm Dando in January, and further damage caused by a second flood in February.
The camp has been cleared of all debris, with decking replaced and refurbished. All the soft furnishings also had to be replaced.
"It's beautifully fresh and clean, and the bonus from the flooding is masses of new growth and lush bush. Bird sightings in camp are exceptional at the moment," said Glynn O'Leary from the management operators, Transfrontier Parks Destinations.
Last November, SANParks made it mandatory for visitors travelling through the Kruger National Park using its border gates as ports of entry or exit to neighbouring countries such as Mozambique to produce a valid overnight booking in either Kruger or Limpopo National Park, effective from December 1.
Machampane offers full-board and walking activities as well as a dinner, bed and breakfast option for local travellers who are in transit from South Africa to the Mozambican coast.
