RED Carnation Hotels has opened its first boutique hotel on the African continent - The Twelve Apostles Hotel in Cape Town. The five-star, 70-bedroomed hotel is a member of The Leading Small Hotels of the World and is situated between Camps Bay and Llandudno. It is flanked by the Twelve Apostles mountain range and faces the Atlantic Ocean. "The hotel was acquired by Beatrice Tollman, president and founder of Red Carnation Hotels for three primary reasons,” says Jonathan Raggett, managing director of the company. "Firstly, Tollman heralds from South Africa and has a genuine love and fondness for this country; secondly, The Twelve Apostles Hotel has a unique location and thirdly, Cape Town is in much demand from overseas visitors and the new conference centre opening next year will only add to the popularity of the destination." Formerly known as De Oudekraal Hotel, the property recently underwent an extensive interior refurbishment at a cost of R25m. (Tina Meier-Carter)
