New regs: Two passengers denied entry

To date, at least two passengers have been denied entry into South Africa as a result of the country’s new immigration regulations, Airports Company South Africa has revealed.

Briefing the Portfolio Committee on Tourism, Assistant General Manager of Operations, Mark Maclean, said: “So far, we have had two passengers who were denied entry.”

Maclean added that the impact of the new immigration regulations, which require children under 18 entering or leaving South Africa to travel with their original unabridged birth certificates, had been minimal so far. He also pointed out, however, that industry-wide concerns remained.

Terminal Services Manager, Lebohang Motasi, added: “On-going communication with passengers through agencies, airlines and immigration to ensure passengers’ compliance and to address concerns and a continued focus on quality service to passengers, especially families, remains a priority.”
