No bail for men accused of 10 tourist attacks

FOUR men believed to have participated in at least ten attacks on foreign tourists in Mpumalanga were denied bail in the Middelburg magistrate's court on Tuesday. Russel Chikane (40), Richard Mazibuko (37), Sifiso Mdluli (31) and Makokisi Mathebula (38) were not asked to plead on charges of armed robbery, murder, attempted murder and rape. They were remanded in custody pending their next court appearance on April 4. They were identified during a police identity parade last week as being involved in a spate of attacks on visitors from Mozambique and Swaziland since last year, said provincial police spokesman, superintendent Izak van Zyl. A special police task team arrested the men on March 14. (African Eye News Service)
