North West Province: Did You Know?

Did you know that the area around the quaint town of Groot Marico in the North West is one of the last places in South Africa to still use the manual telephone exchange system?  The Groot Marico is best known as the setting for many short stories by renowned author Herman Charles Bosman and his portrayals of the area’s colourful characters.

Groot Marico offers history, small town charm and hospitality and every year hosts a two-day Bosman Festival, where his stories are celebrated through readings, dramatisations and of course plenty of mampoer (locally brewed spirit) and wholesome food. The town is also known for its quaint character and many arts and crafts studios.
