PE-George air service cancelled

DUE to lack of support, Streamline NAC will - for the time being at least - terminate its new air service between Port Elizabeth and George effective February 25. The company's branch director in Cape Town, Peter Bower, says that flights are operating virtually empty and are costing the airline between R7 000 and R10 000 a day in losses. He added however that the airline was considering merely suspending the route for 60 days to reassess the situation. The service, which commenced on February 2 on a three-month trial basis, operates twice daily on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The air service was the first to be introduced between the two centres. (Miguel de Sousa)
