First female GM of Ethiopian hotel
Makeda Abraham has been appointed the first female General Manager of The Ramada by Wyndham in Addis Ababa.
A German national of Ethiopian origin, she completed her hotel management degree in the UK and brings almost 20 years’ experience in international hotel operations to the position.
“Makeda Abraham becomes the first female General Manager of Aleph Hospitality in Africa, a true milestone of which we are very proud,” said MD of Aleph Hospitality, Bani Haddad.
“Her professionalism and experience coupled with boundless energy and determination will ensure the team at Ramada by Wyndham Addis Ababa continues to grow from strength to strength.”
Olympic champion named Kenya’s destination ambassador
Kenyan long-distance runner and Olympic champion, Eliud Kipchoge, has been appointed a Magical Kenya destination ambassador by the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB).
Kipchoge will promote Kenya as a preferred tourism destination both locally, regionally and internationally through various campaigns.
“Being Kenyan is a very beautiful thing. I am passionate and love my country dearly and it is an honour to be working with KTB on projects geared towards propelling Kenya as a preferred tourist destination globally,” said Kipchoge.
KTB Chairperson, Dr. Betty Radier said the board was pleased to have Kipchoge committed to promoting destination Kenya, adding that he and other marathoners were Kenya’s greatest assets and had put the destination on the global map.

Kruger appoints new Head Chef
Chef Andrew Atkinson, former Head Chef of the Michelangelo Hotel and the Hyatt in Rosebank, Johannesburg, has been appointed Head Chef at the still-under-construction Kruger Shalati Precinct in the Kruger National Park’s Skukuza Camp.
Atkinson is well known as a judge on the M-Net reality competition cooking series, MasterChef South Africa, in 2012. He was the senior Sous Chef at the Hilton Sandton at the time of the hotel’s opening in 1997.
In his almost 30-year-long career he has captained the SA National Culinary Team and was Director of Competitions for SA Chefs.
“With Chef Atkinson on board, we know we’re going to be able to offer unique and fantastic food options for all our visitors,” said Kruger Shalati Concession GM, Judiet Barnes.
