The Board of Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) appointed Bongiwe Mbomvu as Acting CEO on November 28.
The Board resolved to appoint an Acting CEO while it is engaged in the process of recruiting a permanent replacement for Bongani Maseko, who completed his term at the end of November after 18 years of service to Acsa.
Prior to the recent appointment, Mbomvu, who joined the company in September 2013, was Group Executive: Governance and Assurance at Acsa. Her fields of expertise include corporate governance, risk, and compliance and governance ethics.
Mbomvu is an attorney by training, and received a Bachelor of Social Science, Bachelor of Laws (LLB), and Master of Laws (LLM) degrees from the University of Cape Town.
Mbomvu started her career at Old Mutual as a legal adviser and then worked for financial services companies such as Sanlam, Southern Life and Norwich Life as legal adviser and compliance officer. She was later appointed legal, compliance and secretariat officer at the Life Offices Association before taking the position of group company secretary at Metropolitan Holdings. Prior to joining Acsa, Mbomvu was a group company secretary at Eskom Holdings.
PJ Scott has been appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Roar Africa, US-based travel specialist that has grown to include offices in New York and Cape Town, as well as a dedicated, bi-cultural operations team on the ground throughout Southern Africa.
“Our fast-growing operations and guiding teams in Africa have necessitated the appointment of a COO based on the continent,” said Deborah Calmeyer, Roar Africa’s Founder and CEO. “Scott was one of the first travel partners I had the privilege of working with when I started the business and I was impressed then as now by his business acumen and the savvy with which he combined innovation with customer service. So it is enormously exciting and fulfilling to come full circle and have him as part of our executive team.”
Scott’s previous role as Co-Founder and Director of More Hotels means he brings more than 18 years of experience in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Kenyan low-cost carrier, Jambojet has appointed Allan Kilavuka as new Managing Director and CEO effective January 1.
“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Kilavuka as our new CEO. He has extensive knowledge and experience in the Africa business environment and has successfully delivered high outcomes at lower costs and led in driving efficiencies and simplification in his previous roles. As a growing regional low-cost carrier, we are confident that he is the ideal person to steer Jambojet to the next level,” said Vincent Rague, Jambojet’s Board Chairman.
Kilavuka has over 23 years’ experience in leadership and management. He has proven success in new organisation set-ups, change management, financial planning, integrations, process improvement and company compliance.
Prior to his recent appointment, Kilavuka served at General Electric (GE), where he was the Executive in-charge of Global Operations for sub-Saharan Africa, responsible for the strategic leadership in developing the shared service model and designing organisation and structure. He has also held various senior roles in GE, both in Kenya and South Africa.
Kilavuka has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Nairobi, and also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychology from the University of Liverpool. He has trained at GE’s world-class Crotonville Leadership Institute in New York, in Executive Leadership, Advanced Management and Financial Management.
He will be taking over from Willem Hondius who has been at the helm of the airline since its inception in 2014.
