People on the move: New leadership at AASA

AASA appoints new Chair and Deputy

The Airlines Association of Southern Africa (AASA) has elected a new Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson.

The new Chairperson is CEO of Comair, Wrenelle Stander, and the new Deputy Chair is CEO of FlySafair, Elmar Conradie.

They were elected at the body’s virtual 50th AGM and will serve for the next 12 months.

“Our industry is facing its most difficult test, with COVID-19 and the economic crisis it has precipitated. Both Wrenelle and Elmar are highly respected and knowledgeable leaders in the Southern African air transport industry and well placed to provide guidance and support as we continue to advocate for the airline industry and engage on their behalf with governments and regulators throughout the SADC region,” said AASA CEO, Chris Zweigenthal.

Great Plains Conservation

Eco-tourism group, Great Plains Conservation, has appointed Tracy Bamber as its new Communications Director.

“Tracy will join my EXCO and will also play a valued role, as does our whole Great Plains leadership group, in the Great Plains Foundation, with a view to growing our community and conservation projects even more,” said Founder and Chairman, Dereck Joubert.

“Tracy comes with both experience and imagination and most of all, a kindness that I’ve long been aware of (and even recipient of) in our industry meetings. It is that caring that has resonated with the travel industry for so long, and more than anything this is why I think she is a great fit for us at Great Plains.”
