The parking area at Kalk Bay Harbour in Cape Town has completed an upgrade as part of the Main Road rehabilitation project. Parking areas along the route from Muizenberg to Clovelly were also upgraded.

The surface of the parking area at Kalk Bay Harbour was resurfaced, and the City’s Transport and Urban Development Authority added paved walkways to the rocky shoreline, along with benches, street lights, and a recreational area for markets, fairs, and exhibitions. There is also now a play area for children.

New stairs lead from the parking area to the lower section of the harbour, which means visitors no longer have to walk around the parking area and through traffic to get to the lower harbour section.

“We have improved the access to the parking area by formalising the layout with asphalt surfacing and line markings. These measures assist with traffic flow along Main Road, which is very busy during the tourist season, over weekends, and during peak hour periods on weekdays,” said Councillor Brett Herron, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport and Urban Development.
