Promoting Rwanda to Chinese tourists through photography

The Rwandan Embassy in Beijing has launched a photography competition that will see Chinese photographers travel to Rwanda to capture its tourism offerings, creating further visibility for the East African nation in China.

The Rwandan Embassy in China recently launched a photography contest where Chinese photographers will embark on a trip to Rwanda to take images of its tourist attractions, economic progress and cultural exchanges.

Launched on Friday, December 7 at the Rwandan Embassy in Beijing, the contest, dubbed the ‘Rwanda-China Friendship Cup Photo Contest’, will see Chinese photographers travel to Rwanda in January, taking photos of Rwanda’s various aspects including wildlife, landscape and people.

According to the organisers, the participants will include social media specialists, bloggers, and amateur photographers. The images taken will be on display at an award ceremony to be held in Kigali next year.

During the event, Rwanda’s Ambassador to China, Charles Kayonga said the contest would significantly enhance the visibility of the country, showcasing its beauty and abundance of resources, reports The New Times.

“This photography contest will enhance knowledge and information of the following: Rwanda’s fascinating landscape and its tourism resources. The landscape of Rwanda is characterised by angulating lowlands in the east, rugged hills that radiate from the centre of the country to the south, to the west, and north, culminating in the volcanic mountains in the north west,” The New Times quotes Kayonga saying.
