R10,5m facelift completed at Lower Sabie

TWO years after a fire destroyed the Lower Sabie rest camp in the Kruger National Park (KNP), it has been reopened. The camp, curio shop, cafeteria and reception area were rebuilt along the banks of the Sabie River at a cost of R10,5m. The camp also has a swimming pool. There are still plans to extend the tented camp area so it can accommodate 30 tents, and to build a conference facility and boma at the restaurant. The KNP also recently upgraded its Pretoriuskop camp at a cost of R2,3m. As part of a public/private partnership, the KNP has, in addition, built a new gate to the park, which will be opened in mid-December. The Phabeni Gate, near the Albisini ruins between the Kruger and Numbi gates cost R14,3m and is just 10 minutes from the town of Hazyview. (African Eye News Service)
