CONSTRUCTION has begun on the new R13,5 million Victoria Hotel in the commercial heart of Malawi's second city, Blantyre. The new 50-bed business hotel is excepted to charge at least 30% less than Malawi's standard US$150 per room per night. "Malawi currently only offers accommodation at the very high end of the market, and our research indicates a viable gap for business and other budget travellers," said project coordinator Paul Kite. The hotel is scheduled to open by March 2002. (African Eye News Service)
